Library Services supports the University’s rich range of theory and practice based research activity, throughout the research process, including support for students undertaking postgraduate courses involving research such as MRes and doctoral programmes including PhD.

Resources to support your study are available on Academic Support Online, particularly the Research & Library Skills section.

Face to face support is available in the libraries through bookable one to one sessions and drop in sessions.

Your initial point of contact in each library is:

Camberwell and Chelsea College of Arts Libraries:
Gustavo Grandal Montero

Central Saint Martins Library:
Viv Eades

London College of Fashion Library:
Carolyn Boreham

London College of Communication:
Leo Clarey

Wimbledon College of Arts Library:
Jan Morgan

The Research Network UAL (RNUAL) Programme

Library & Academic Support Services staff also contribute to the Research Network (RNUAL) Programme, a comprehensive development programme for PhD students, providing sessions on using libraries and archives, citation and bibliographies and scholarly communications.

Using the libraries

Use Library Search to locate resources in all our libraries, and access online articles, e-journals and databases. Research students can borrow 20 items from any of the libraries. Books can be reserved on the library catalogue (Library Search) and delivered to the library that’s most convenient for you.
If we do not have the book or article you need, library staff can advise you about Using Other Libraries, or you can request an inter-library loan.

Archives & Special Collections

The libraries hold special collections and archives that inspire many kinds of research activity. Some of these are housed in the University Archives & Special Collections Centre at the London College of Communication.

UAL Research Online (UALRO)

UALRO is the online and freely accessible open access collection of the University’s research outputs. It includes PhD theses. See our guide to find out more about UALRO, and scholarly communications.
